계속되는 헨델 서거 250주기 기념음악들입니다.

헨델의 음악사에서의 공헌은 뭐니뭐니해도 합창음악에서 나타난다고들 합니다. 어떻게 나타나냐고요? 그걸 제가 설명할 능력이 있을 리가요ㅡ,.ㅡ;;;

베토벤은 헨델의 음악을 가리켜 '적은 음표로 많은 것을 표현한다'고 했다는데,

헨델 인생의 앞 절반을 차지했던 오페라 위주로 음악을 듣는 분들은
'역시 베토벤이 귀가 멀다 보니 헨델에 대해 뭔가 단단히 잘못 알고 있구나' 라고 생각할 것이고
,
뒤 절반을 차지했던 오라토리오를 주로 듣는 분은 베토벤의 의견에 어느 정도 공감할 수 있게 되는 게 아닐까 하는 짐작이....

오늘 올리는 '성 세실리아의 날을 위한 송가'는 딱 위 두 시기의 중간 쯤에 태어난
- 즉 (이탈리아어) 오페라는 올리는 족족 쫄딱 망하고 해서, 슬슬 (영어) 오라토리오로 방향을 틀던 시기- 작품으로 아마추어 합창단도 종종 도전하곤 하는 명곡입니다.

헨델의 합창음악, '메시아' 말고도 수많은 곡이 있다는 거, 이 곡을 통해서 다시금 상기하게 되었으면 합니다. (영어 가사 노래인데 번역은....... 넘어갑니다-_-;;;;).......
