Alex Rodriguez-3B-Yankees
According to his brother, Joe Dunand,
Alex Rodriguez will undergo surgery Monday on the cyst on his right hip and could be sidelined until May.
MLB.com reports that Rodriguez will likely "spend two weeks in the hospital recovering before he can return to the field" and has dropped out of the World Baseball Classic. Infield is the one area where the Yankees lack depth and right now Cody Ransom and Angel Berroa would seemingly be the leading in-house candidates to replace Rodriguez at third base. The team could look into swapping outfield depth for infield help or signing a veteran free agent like Ray Durham or Mark Grudzielanek, although neither player has seen time at the hot corner this decade. For all the criticism Rodriguez has taken lately, losing him for even a month would be a huge blow to the Yankees.
