Nomar Garciaparra
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Nomar Garciaparra is close to signing with the A's.
Rosenthal reported last week that it would either be Oakland or retirement for Garciaparra, and apparently he's decided to keep playing. Nomar will get a one-year deal and serve as the backup to Eric Chavez at third base, perhaps pushing Jack Hannahan off the roster.

Orlando Cabrera
According to Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown, the A's and Orlando Cabrera have agreed to a one-year, $4 million contract.
Such a steal. The A's will owe Cabrera less than the Royals will be paying Kyle Farnsworth this season. His addition means that Bobby Crosby will be thrust into a backup role, barring a trade. It'd make an awful lot of sense for the Padres to go get Crosby if the A's would eat the majority of his salary.

Barry Bonds
Agent Jeff Borris said Monday that he will soon contact all 30 teams in the hopes of landing Barry Bonds a job.
"Due to the fact that Barry's trial has been delayed an indefinite period of time I will be making the rounds this week to see if there's any interest in Barry playing for the 2009 season," Borris said. "I'm not optimistic now, either. Unless they have a change of heart, or see an error in their ways, I seriously doubt that clubs will give him the opportunity to play this year."
