네번째 녹음으로 자신들을 있게 해준 작곡가 탈리스의 라틴어로 된 종교음악을 노래한 탈리스 스콜라스.

다섯 번째 녹음 역시 탈리스의 작품입니다. 다만 이번엔 영어 가사로.

그러고보니 라틴어가 아닌 영어로만 녹음을 한 건 이번이 처음이군요.




저 볼 퉁퉁한 꼬맹이는 과연 누구일까 궁금했는데 평소에 아무 생각 없다가 이 글을 올리며 혹시 싶어 찾아보았더니,

小 한스 홀바인이 그린 에드워드 6세의 어린 시절 초상이랍니다.


'영어 찬송가' 음반 표지에 헨리 8세의 유일한 아들내미 얼굴을 올려놓은 이유는 아마도 당시 헨리 8세가 행한 영국 성공회로의 종교개혁을 의식했기 때문이 아닐까 하네요. 귀찮아서 해설지를 안 읽어봤는데, 맞겠죠 뭐-_-;;;;;;

확실한 거 하나는, 종교개혁을 했다고 하여 특별히 변한 건 없다는 거. 따라서 여기 실린 음악도 언어만 영어로 바뀌었을 뿐 독일 루터파 교회에서 생산하던 코랄과 (음악적으로는 몰라도) 최소한 가사 정도는 똑같다고 보시면 되겠습니다.

당장 大 바흐께서 칸타타, 오르간 코랄에 사용하셨던 것과 똑같은 가사가 몇 곡 눈에 띄는군요.

요 판의 첫 곡인 '나를 사랑하는 자는 내 말을 지킬지니 If ye love me, keep my commandments' 는 'Wer mich liebet, der wird mein Wort halten'(BWV 59 74),

'진실로, 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 Verily, verilyI say unto you'는 'Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch'(BWV 86),

'저 깊은 곳에서 당신을 부르나이다 Out from the deep I call to thee'는 'Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu Dir'(BWV 38, 131),

뭐, 더 언급하지 않아도... 어차피 음악적으로는 딱히 할 말이ㅠㅠㅠ
